How to Optimize an SVG File and Make It Smaller

Remove comments, metadata and extra whitespace from SVG code and round long numbers, with a live size comparison in your browser.

How to Optimize an SVG File and Make It Smaller

Why SVGs get bloated

SVGs exported from design tools often contain comments, metadata, editor-specific data and numbers with many decimal places. None of that is needed to draw the image, but it adds to the file size.

How to optimize

Open the SVG Optimizer and paste your SVG. Choose which clean-ups to apply: remove comments, remove metadata and title, collapse whitespace and round numbers. The original size, optimized size and percentage saved update as you change options, then copy the result.

Check the result

Rounding numbers to two decimals normally looks identical, but on very small or detailed graphics it can shift a shape slightly. Untick Round numbers if the picture changes. Removing the title also removes text that screen readers can use, so keep it if accessibility matters.

What it does not do

This is a simple text clean-up. It does not simplify paths, merge shapes or remove unused definitions, so a heavily bloated file may shrink less than it would with a full SVG optimizer.
