How to Convert Images to AVIF and WebP Free

Why use AVIF or WebP

AVIF and WebP are modern image formats that often produce smaller files than JPEG or PNG at similar visual quality. Smaller images help pages load faster, which matters for visitors on slow connections.

Convert an image

Open the Advanced Image Encoder and add your image. Choose AVIF or WebP, then move the quality slider. The tool shows the new file size next to the original so you can see what you save before you download.

Pick a quality level

Lower quality means a smaller file but more visible loss. Start near the middle, compare the result with your original, and lower the slider only while the image still looks good to you. If the new file is not smaller than the original, keep the original.

What your browser supports

The tool uses your own browser to encode the image. AVIF and WebP encoding work in Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge. Other browsers may not be able to encode one or both formats, and the tool tells you when that is the case. JPEG XL is listed for the future, but no browser can encode it today.

Privacy

Encoding happens on your device. Your image is not uploaded to a server.
