How to Convert a Unix Timestamp to a Date (and Back)
Turn an epoch timestamp in seconds or milliseconds into local time, UTC and ISO 8601, or convert a date back into a timestamp.
What a Unix timestamp is
A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC, known as the epoch. It is a single number that means the same moment everywhere, which is why logs and APIs use it.
Seconds or milliseconds
A 10-digit value such as 1700000000 is in seconds. A 13-digit value such as 1700000000000 is in milliseconds, which is what JavaScript Date.now() returns. The Timestamp Converter reads a value longer than 10 digits as milliseconds.
Convert a timestamp
Open the Timestamp Converter and paste the number, or click Now for the current time. You see the date in your local time, in UTC and in ISO 8601 format at once.
Convert a date back
Pick a date and time in the date field and click Convert. The picker uses your device time zone and the result is a whole number of seconds, so a UTC value may differ from the local time you chose.
