How to Merge PDFs in the Right Order
Combine several PDFs into one file with the pages in exactly the order you want. A quick guide to ordering and selecting pages while merging, free and private.
Why the order matters
When you merge invoices, contract sections, or scanned pages, the wrong sequence turns a tidy document into a confusing one. Getting the order right before you merge saves you from re-doing it, because the order of the files in the list becomes the page order in the final PDF.
Merge and reorder in your browser
Open the Merge PDF tool, add your files, then drag them up or down until they are in the sequence you want, and click merge to download one combined PDF. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, which matters when you are combining private documents like payslips or IDs.
Set the order before you merge
Use the up and down controls or drag each file into place. Name your files with a leading number (01, 02, 03) before uploading if you have many, so they are easy to arrange. Double-check the first and last file, since those are the easiest to get wrong.
Include only some pages from a file
You do not have to add a whole document. Each file has a page-range field: leave it blank for all pages, or enter something like 1-3, 5, 8-10 to include only those pages. Use a hyphen for a range and commas to separate pages or ranges. This is handy for pulling the signed page out of a long contract.
Common ordering mistakes
The usual slips are forgetting to move a late-added file into position, and leaving a cover page at the end instead of the front. Merge, open the result, and skim the page thumbnails once before sending. If the order is off, reorder and merge again; the tool does not change your originals.
A note on privacy
Because merging happens on your device, the combined file is built locally and never sits on a server. There is no watermark and no sign-up, so a quick merge stays quick and private.
