How to Remove EXIF and GPS Data From Photos

Why remove photo metadata

A photo can quietly include the exact place it was taken, the device you used and the time. That matters when you post pictures of your home, sell something online or share photos of children. Removing the metadata keeps the picture and drops the hidden details.

How to remove it

Open the Remove Image Metadata tool and drop in one or more images. Click Remove metadata and download the clean copy. With several images you get a single ZIP. Each image is re-encoded in your browser, which drops the EXIF block and every other metadata block, and nothing is uploaded.

What to expect

The output is a JPG or PNG. JPEGs are re-saved at high quality, so there is a very small change in the file from the re-encode, while the picture looks the same. Photos in other formats that your browser can open are saved as JPG.

Check that it worked

Open the cleaned file in the EXIF Metadata Viewer. It should report that no EXIF metadata was found. Do this once with a test photo so you can trust your routine.

Sharing apps are not a guarantee

Some platforms strip metadata when you upload, but not all of them do, and sending the original file by email or a cloud link usually keeps everything. Cleaning the file yourself before you share is the safest habit.
