How to Check if a Photo Has Your Location (EXIF Viewer)
Photos can carry hidden GPS coordinates, camera details and timestamps. Here is how to see exactly what a JPEG reveals before you share it, free and private.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF is a block of information that cameras and phones save inside a photo file. It can include the camera make and model, the date and time, exposure settings like ISO and aperture, and, if location services were on, the GPS coordinates where the picture was taken.
How to view it
Open the EXIF Metadata Viewer, then click or drop a JPEG photo. The tool lists the camera, date, exposure details and GPS position if the file contains them. A GPS coordinate becomes a link that opens the spot on a map. The file is read in your browser, so the photo is never uploaded.
Why "No EXIF metadata" is common
Many apps and websites remove metadata when you upload or send a photo, and screenshots usually have none. If the viewer says no EXIF was found, the data was probably stripped along the way. Only JPEG photos are supported by this viewer.
What to do if a location is attached
If you see GPS coordinates and you do not want them shared, clean the photo with the Remove Image Metadata tool before posting it or sending the original file. Then check the cleaned copy in the viewer to confirm the location is gone.
A note on trust
EXIF data can be edited, copied from another photo or removed, so treat it as a clue rather than proof of where or when a picture was taken.
