How to Capture a Frame from a Video as an Image
Pick the exact moment in a video and save it as a PNG for a thumbnail, cover or preview, without uploading the video.
When you need a still from a video
A thumbnail, a cover image or a preview often comes from one moment in a video. Taking a screenshot of the player works, but it adds player controls and lowers the quality. Capturing the frame itself avoids both problems.
Capture a frame
Open the Video Thumbnail Grabber and choose a video file. Play it or drag the scrub bar to the moment you want, then capture the frame. Download the result as a PNG.
Quality and size
The image is saved at the video's own resolution, so a 1920 x 1080 video gives a 1920 x 1080 PNG. PNG is lossless, so files can be large. If you need a smaller file, run the PNG through an image compressor afterwards.
Which videos work
Any video your browser can play, which usually includes MP4 and WebM. The tool reads frames from the browser's own player, so a video that will not play in your browser cannot be captured.
Privacy
The video stays on your device and is never uploaded.
