How to Make a Favicon for Your Website, Free
Create a simple letter or emoji favicon, choose the sizes you need and download PNG files for your site.
What a favicon is
A favicon is the small icon shown in browser tabs, bookmarks and search results. A clear, simple icon helps people find your tab among many open ones.
Create the icon
Open the Favicon Generator and type one or two characters, which can be a letter or an emoji. Pick a background color, a text color and a corner radius, and check the live preview.
Choose the sizes
Tick the sizes you want from 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 180, 192 and 512 pixels. A common set is 16 and 32 for browser tabs, 180 for the Apple touch icon, and 192 and 512 for web app icons. One size downloads as a PNG and several download together as a ZIP.
Add it to your site
Upload the files to your site and link them in the head of your page, for example with a link tag using rel="icon" and type="image/png". Modern browsers accept PNG favicons.
What it does not do
The generator makes icons from typed characters only, so you cannot upload a logo, and it exports PNG files, not an .ico file. If you need either, design the icon elsewhere and convert it. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
